Aruncus dioicus also known as Goat’s beard is a highly ornamental plant with large feather-like flowers for a semi shady to shady garden. Blooms mid summer with branching plumes of tiny, creamy-white flowers! They like a bit of moisture as long as it’s not waterlogged. They are ideal for a freestanding location where the ornamental value of this wild Astilbe plant can be most appreciated or as an imposing perennial for the back of borders.

How to take care of Goatsbeard

Goatsbeard can grow quite tall and wide, so it needs a reasonably amount of space, maybe at the back of the border or as a single specimen. Best planted in dappled shade in moist but well drained fertile soil.

Make sure the planting site has been dug deeply as Goatsbeard roots like to go deep.

Spray immediately in spring at the first sign of caterpillars. Cut back stems to just above the ground level in late autumn or after flowering.

Generally disease free.

Divide clumps in autumn, mature plants are more difficult to spilt.
